How to Read the Control Panel on Your Pro Max or Pro Classic Smoker
Pro Smoker home electric smokers have easy to read and use digital control panels. This video gives you a great overview of how to engage with the control panel to optimize your cook.
Below is a recap of the various display elements:
- On/Off Power Button
- Actual Temperature Readout
- Temperature Setpoint
- Wi-Fi Connected Icon
- Primary Control Knob: Digital control that you can rotate to adjust time and temperature; to change from Fahrenheit to Celsius, push and hold the knob
- Menu Button: Toggles between cycle, smoke, cook, and time; press down on the menu button to go to a different Mode or setting

Query Button: Shows the set time and temperature for each Meat Probe; press the Query Button to change between Meat Probes
- Cycle Icon: Cycle setting will auto-rotate between the timer and smoker temp settings; use the Menu Button to set your controller to Cycle view
- Cooking Modes - Smoke, Cook, Time: Show the cooking Mode that the smoker is in; to select a Mode, press Menu Button until the Mode you want is illuminated and temperature control knob flashes; press the knob to confirm the Mode
- Meat Probe Indicators: Show which temperature is being read; you can set desired temperatures for each probe separately by holding the probe number until flashing, pressing the control knob to confirm, and then rotating the knob to the desired temperature for that probe (press the knob a second time to confirm)
There are three meat probe jacks for your smoker meat probes that can be plugged into the control panel.
What Are the Different Cooking Modes?
Smoke Mode
Recommended when using sawdust. General temperature range is 80-180 degrees Fahrenheit. Burner wattage in Smoke Mode is 725 Watts.
Cook Mode
Recommended for cooking about 180 degrees Fahrenheit. Pro Smoker home devices go up to 300 degrees Fahrenheit, and burner wattage up to 1450 Watts.
Time Mode
In Time Mode, you can set a specific amount of time to cook and then select the cook temperature. Whenever possible, we recommend using sensor-based cooking instead of time so you can hit specific meat temperatures.
