Beyond the Blend: No. 103 Apple Pie Rub

Home Slice.

You won't be able to get your fill-ing of No. 103, our sweet spiced Apple Pie BBQ Rub. Just like granny made it, this rub is filled with cinnamon, warm pie spices, brown sugar and notes of apple and butter.

Inspired by one of our best-selling rubs for bacon, this blend is a great pairing with any type of pork. The rich spicy notes make it delicious on roasted chicken, duck, or wild game. Other great uses include:

  • Pork Belly
  • Tenderloin or Loin
  • Roasted Chicken

Flavor Profile

No. 0103 has a salty-sweet profile with added spices that will remind you of granny's famous homemade pie. With no added artificial ingredients, this blend gets it's pie-like flavor from:

Brown Sugar: A sweet base is essential for a good BBQ rub. The sugars help in color development and caramelize into a delicious candy-type coating.

Natural Butter Flavor: To get the full apple pie flavor, we added butter flavoring to get that richness and mellow out some of the spicier notes.

Cinnamon: Cinnamon is a spice obtained from the inner bark of several tree species from the genus Cinnamomum. The sweet-spicy flavor of Cinnamon enhances the taste of vegetables and fruits. Cinnamon is used to mellow the tartness of apple pie.

Apples: A hint of apple adds a freshness and fruitiness to this otherwise rich blend and pairs well with the natural flavors of pork.

Clove: Cloves are the flower buds of the clove tree, an evergreen. Cloves have a distinct and undeniable warmth and are used frequently in pie spices.

According to Kerry USA, Apple and Apple Pie flavors are Key ingredients for 2020, while Cinnamon is still a strong mainstream ingredient.

Recipes

No. 103's cinnamon and apple profile make it the perfect pairing for any pork dish you can think of. The sweet brown sugar mingles with the juices of the meat,  caramelizing into a delicious glaze. We also recommend stirring it into fresh coleslaws, baked goods, or grilled fennel.

Cinnamon Spice Ribs

Treat yourself to these sweet and succulent Apple Cinnamon Ribs. For this recipe, we used baby back ribs but our Apple Pie Cinnamon Spice rub is the perfect pairing for any kind of pork rib. The sweet rub thickens and caramelizes for a rich, candy-like glaze.

Pork Chops with Apple Slaw

Apples and pork are a classic combination. We're taking it to the next level with our Apple Pie Cinnamon Spice Rub, which adds a sweetness and richness to your every day pork chop. Serve with a fresh and crunchy apple and fennel slaw.
