Grilled Beer Can Chicken

Grilled Beer Can Chicken

This recipe proves that beer is good for more than just drinking. Pick your favorite IPA and stuff it inside the cavity of your chicken. The beer steams on the grill and adds moisture to the chicken, while our beer-infused Cock-a-Doodle-Brew Rub adds even more frothy beer flavor to the skin as it crisps. Cheers!

Grilled Beer Can Chicken

Difficulty: Easy
Prep time: 10 minutes
Cook time: 1 hour 20 minutes
Serves: 4

Ingredients:

6 lbs.

Chicken, whole

2 T

Olive Oil
1/3 cup Cock-A-Doodle Brew Rub
12 oz  IPA (pick your favorite)
Yellow Onion, sliced
2 T Butter
1/2 cup Vegetable Stock

Instructions:

  2. Rinse the whole chicken under cold water and pat dry. Coat chicken with olive oil, then season chicken with Cock-A-Doodle Brew, including the cavity and underneath the skin.

  3. Pour out ⅓ cup of beer and set aside. Place beer can in the middle of a cast iron skillet then place the chicken on top of the beer can. Transfer the chicken to the grill (indirect heat) and cover. Cook the chicken for 25 minutes, then add onions, butter, vegetable stock, and reserved beer.

  4. Rotate chicken and continue cooking and additional 25 to 30 minutes, or until an instant-read thermometer registers 165 °F.

  5. Remove from grill, and allow to rest 15-20 minutes. Remove can from cavity, carve and serve.
