Smoked Smash Burgers
These smoked smash burgers start by cold-smoking 2 oz meatballs for an hour, then smashing them on a hot griddle for crispy, caramelized edges. Seasoned with The BBQ General SPG Rub, these burgers deliver unbeatable smoky flavor.
Ingredients
- 2 LB -- Ground Beef
- 16 Slice -- American Cheese
- 8 -- Burger Buns
- 3 TB -- BBQ General SPG Rub
Directions
- Portion the ground beef into 2 oz meatballs and place on a rack.
- Preheat your smoker to 125 degrees.
- Fill a sawdust pan 1/2 full with your choice in sawdust and then dampen with water.
- Place the sawdust pan directly on the heating element.
- Once the smoker comes to temp and begins to smoke, place the rack with the meatballs in the smoker.
- Reduce the temperature setting down to 90 degrees.
- Smoke the meatballs for 1 hour.
- Preheat your griddle to 375 degrees.
- Remove the meatballs from the smoker.
- Place a meatball down on the flattop and smash with a burger press.
- Season with BBQ General SPG rub.
- Once the burger is caramelized on one side, flip and immediately top with a slice of American cheese. Continue this process with the other meatballs.
- Toast your burger buns if desired.
- Build your smash burgers with two patties per burger.
- Serve and enjoy!
