Regulatory Specialist

Profile:

Under the direction of the Technical Director, this position provides technical expertise and support in product labeling, nutrition, allergen, and regulatory issues specific for PS Seasoning. The position provides broad-based labeling and nutrition guidance, ensures the technical accuracy of product labels, and develops and maintains appropriate records to meet company, government, and customer expectations. The ideal candidate is a self-driven, well organized Regulatory Specialist who can exercise decision making and time management skills.  This position supports the company’s production facility with the responsibilities that are included below.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Act as the subject matter expert regarding regulations including USDA, FDA, Organic, Kosher, and export requirements
  • Effectively communicate regulatory requirements and appropriate recommendations on regulatory positions to Senior Management, Quality Assurance, Product Development, and Sales partners
  • Obtain and/or maintain specialized certifications, including defining and documenting programs and working with the plant Quality team to ensure requirements are met.
  • Work independently, with external and internal experts, and with other team members to prepare specification sheets and technical documents
  • Review supplier nutrition and composition information to evaluate for completeness and regulatory compliance
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science or closely related field
  • Two or more years of experience in the food industry, primarily in regulatory affairs, regulatory compliance, or product development
  • Experience working with and current knowledge of USDA/FDA Regulations as they pertain to labeling, nutrition, standards of identity, allergens, and food safety
  • Ability to interpret regulations and advise on proposed claims and formulations; and recommend changes to claims and formulations to fulfill requirements
  • Strong computer skills, including Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to effectively communicate and interact when working with cross-functional teams
  • Well organized with the ability to prioritize projects and adapt to changing deadlines
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently
  • Project Management experience desired
