How to Marinate Meat

When you’re going to marinate meat, you want to be sure the meat absorbs as much of the flavor as possible. Follow these three steps to marinate the best meat:

  1. Poke holes in the meat to allow spaces for the sauce to absorb.
  2. Cover the meat with marinade, making sure to get all sides.
  3. Refrigerate your marinating meat for a few hours to let the meat soak in all the delicious flavors.

How Long Do You Marinate Meat?

While you want to leave your meat marinating for a few hours, you also don’t want to overdo it. Marinating your meat for too long can result in an unpleasantly mushy or stringy texture to the meat. The combination of sugars, salts, and acids can do more harm than good when left for too long.

Do You Rinse Marinade Off Before Cooking?

The best way to cook meat that’s been marinated is to remove the excess marinade before cooking. This prevents a messy grill and also allows for the meat to brown more evenly. All that extra marinade can be removed, so all that’s left on the meat is enough for a nice coating.

Is it Marinade or Marinate?

A marinade is the sauce or liquid mixture that coats the meat. Marinate is the verb that corresponds with marinade. To marinate meat is to coat it with sauce or liquid mixture and soak it before cooking.
